Stored Product Pests

Stored product insect pests are usually found living in products such as dried fruits, spices, flour, bran, peas, dried vegetables, dried flowers, grains, milled cereal products, dog food, nuts, candy, macroni and sphaghetti, cheese and other similar items.

Stored product pests contaminate-and thus eliminate for human consumption- far more food than they eat. The loss is both, Quantitative and Qualitative.

Most pests live and reproduce best under warm, humid conditions. They can be separated into four major groups according to their feeding habits; Internal feeders, External feeders, Scavengers and Secondary pests.

Stored product management includes the use of Insecticides, but if other methods, such as sanitation, insect proofing, proper storage practices, and insect electrocutors are used successfully, the amount of insecticide needed can be reduced significantly.

Pest management services are frequently required in food processing plants, warehouses, stores, homes, bulk storage facilities, and other food handling establishments.
